Don't you just want to be a fly on the wall when former President Bill Clinton meets with Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL)?
Terry McAuliffe told CNN's Candy Crowley that Clinton is scheduled to meet with the presumed Democratic nominee this week. They're supposed to discuss what role the one-time so-called "black president'. But as his wife - Hillary - campaigned to become the nation's first woman president, Obama showed his political savvy to potentially become the 'real' black president.
Herein lies the problem: Clinton aliented many black voters in South Carolina - his one-time core group of supporters - when he compared Obama's historic run for president to the Rev. Jesse Jackson in 1988. At another point, whether it was in context or out of context - Clinton referred to Obama's run as a 'fantasy'. At numerous other times during his efforts to push his wife to the top spot, he angrily waved his finger at large crowds and media accusing them of treating Obama too easily on the campaign trial.
So, what's Clinton going to say, "Oh, I'm sorry, never mind. Didn't mean anything I said. Let's be friends. And let's kick some butt and take the White House back. I'm looking forward to returning there. You know, as much as you don't want to admit, but you really need me to win this election. I could help you out. You need a Bubba like me and you definitely need my wife out there.
"It comes down to this, Baa-rack. You're a good kid. Remind me a lot of me when I was a young politician. But you have no idea how rough it's going to get. You hear me? No idea! Hillary and I have been drug through the mud and literally been trashed by the media that we know how to deal with it. You don't. So let me campaign for you. And what I want is carte blanche access to the White house. I got some ideas that'll turn this world upside down. In the right way, you know what I mean."
Barack will tilt his head, listen carefully.
"Bill, I respect you and your wife. You've made it possible for me to do what I've done so far. You know, I've had a fantastic year. And Michelle and I have spent many hours talking about how this campaign was going to affect our lives ... and the lives of our children - Malia Ann and Sasha. So, I really appreciate your insight on how you, Hillary and Chelsea dealt with this. But, Bill, if I may, let me cut to the chase. I can't have you running around this country talking the way you did during the primaries.
"I love your passion, but I can't afford you creating a lot of division and distraction. I've got to get your word that you'll work with my team and agree to our talking points. I know you and some of my folks have had words. You know as well as I that's politics. You, Hillary and I want the same thing. You know why we've got to do everything we can to get there. I don't want to play their game, and they're not going to drag me into it. You can't drag me into it. Can I trust you on that, Bill?"
Bill will grab his glass, take a sip, squint his eyes in the way we've seen him do so many times before. "You know, Baaa-rack, you something else. I like you, but you need to know something" Leaning forward, Bill will say, "I'll look out after your back, but you better look out after mine. You know I can make stuff happen, and I want my people to feel good about coming on board to help you out." Bill, leaning back in the chair, will say, "Come on brutha, let's make history."
Barack will stand up, extend his hand. The two men will embrace. And that will be that. Let the photo ops begin.
It's plain and simple: Despite the Clinton baggage, Obama needs the Clintons, the machine they bring and their willingness to do battle with anti-Obama forces.

Get on the Bus Gus
I agree with the article that Barack and the Clinton's need each other. Both have strengths that compliment each other. Bill Clinton may have made comments that were not too flattering, but Barack is a big boy and will need to get over it. The Clinton's are not racist, they were playing politics and I am sure Barack understand politics as he is a politician from Chicago.
However, the primary is over, we have a nominee, and we need all the Democrats on one accord. So, with that being said, get on the bus Gus and lets move this bus towards the white house.
