Did Senator McCain and Mitt Romney strike a deal? Romney on the McCain ticket would go a long way towards "healing the party" and placating those ultra-conservatives like Limbaugh and Coulter. Politics is the process of negotiating the distribution of limited resources, in this case it's money and votes. After the 2000 Presidential election Senator McCain made with President Bush in order to secure his place as heir apparent. Has he compromised again?
If Hillary goes into a brokered convention with more delegates than Senator Obama does she ask Senator Obama to be her running mate? One thing the Clinton's have demonstrated over the years is a "win at any cost" approach to politics. If Senator Clinton arrives at a brokered convention with more delegates, I think she will offer the VP spot to Senator Obama and that would be a very difficult offer to refuse. As Charles Dudley Warner wrote, " politics makes strange bedfellows".

Dr. Leon, delegates, super delgates and a brokered convention is a lot to think about. I feel that if Clinton is able to win the partry it will be deliveded by the super delgates. I also feel that if the count is that close and the super delgates are the ones making the finall choice for the party then Clinton will be forced to reach out to Obama and offer the VP position. Clinton can not afford to have BLUE voters reminded what happend 4 years ago Bush - vs- Kerry.
If Obama is able to gain enogh delgates to where the super delgates will not matter, then I feel that Obama will not be forced (unlike Clinton) to offer the VP position to Clinton. Obama has run a campain of change and offering Clinton a VP position will go against his platform. I would not be shocked if John Edwards is offered the VP position to run with Obama, becasue of Edwards message of fighting against poverty, and for middle class American's, and he will also assit in gaining addational support in the southern and western states.
You are right, delegates in
You are right, delegates in any form, and a brokered convention is a lot to think about but that's what this democracy is supposed to be about. I hope the superdelegates don't contradict the will of the people. That will do long term damage to the party. There are a lot of moderate Republicans and independents that are leaning Democrat and would abandon the party if they felt betrayed by the superdelegate "insiders". It would be viewwed by many as business as usual and not change.
I also agree that Senator Obama is not under to the same preassure to bring Senator Clinton on as his VP running mate as she would be with him. It's all about what can you bring to the ticket and she does not add anyting to an Obama ticket. Since he is cutting deeply into her base, he brings more to her than she to him.
Obama - Edwards is a powerful and smart play.
Peace and Blessings,

Purchasing a multi-millionare
Dr. Leon, I think the question being asked is great one and I also feel it applies to both parties. The GOP, I find it very interesting that Mitt Romney made a choice to take a break (not to quit) from his campain leaving John McCain in the lead and the favorate to win the party. The national media started talking about the GOP "healing the national party" as soon as Romney made his choice to take a break. When I here multipal media outlets saying the same message my radar goses off indicating something is going on or something was leaked to promote a message "healing the national party." Its a real posability that Rominey may have offered to step aside for McCain if he was promised a VP position. I can see Romney accepting a VP position sinced he was attemption the purchase the presidance. Romney may be looking at a return on his investment, McCain is older person and "may" only end up serving one term due to age or health if electiced president. Romney may be attempting to position himself as the one to carry the tourch after McCain term has ended. McCain and Romney both have unique isses which divide them from there parities hard line personalities and if they united as one they could put there party in a position where the hard line personalites will just have to deal with them.
Thanks for the compliment.
Thanks for the compliment. I think both Romney and Edwards used the same language, "suspending their campaign." I am not sure what the legal ramifications are behind that. It may have some impact on matching funds or still collecting contributions or some other financial impact.
Senator McCain started talking about "healing the party" right before Romney "suspended" his efforts. I would not be surprised if a deal was cut. I do not know who initiated the conversation. Accepting the VP spot is a good ROI for Romney. Even if he does not get the nod for this VP spot it put him in the good graces with the party loyalists and can bode well for his future.
I think McCain should force the hand of the social conservative/Christian right. They are well financed and vocal but small in number compared to the total population. for each one of them he looses he picks up 2 or 3 conservative Democrats and Independents.
Peace and Blessings,
Wilmer
