Two-time presidential canddiate Ross Perot has launched a new website challenging Americans to wake up and fight the nation's $9.4 trillion dollar deficit.
The 78-year-old Perot, known for his no-nonsense approach, told the Dallas Morning News that he created PerotCharts.com to remind Americans that the deficit is "like a cancer" and must be treated immediately. The site is not tied to any political party or any candidate, and Perots says he is not running for anything.
In 1992, while running for president, Perot pulled out his famous charts during a 30-minute TV segment where he explained how the deficit was weakening the country. Now, he and his business partner, Mike Poss, have posted many of these charts - and others - on his website.
Perhaps most insightful were Perot's comments about China. During his interview with The News' Business Editor Cheryl Hall, he told her:
"We need to remind ourselves when we get up each morning that we're a nation of 300 million people. China is a nation of 1.3 billion. We're the point three.
"We sure don't ever want to have a war with China when China is the shipbuilding capital of the world, the steel-making capital of the world, becoming the manufacturing capital of the world.
"It's amazing what they are doing and amazing how well their students do when they come to this country. They have a long way to go. But look at who's moving forward and who's moving backward."
